Portugal midfielder Petit has completed a transfer from Benfica to Cologne for an undisclosed fee. The 31-year-old passed a medical on Wednesday morning before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Bundesliga side to become their sixth summer signing and arguably one of the biggest in the club's history.

Birmingham have signed Dutch midfielder Kemy Agustien from AZ Alkmaar on a one-season loan. The 21-year-old, who can play anywhere across midfield, has cost Blues an initial £590,000, with an option to buy the player for £1.57million.

Stoke are hoping to complete a deal for Denmark international goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen. The 32-year-old former Aston Villa number one has been on trial with the Potters. He is available on a free transfer after being released by Villa at the end of last season.

Steed Malbranque has moved a step closer to becoming Roy Keane's third signing from Tottenham, with the French midfielder undergoing a medical at Sunderland. Keane has already brought full-back Pascal Chimbonda and midfielder Teemu Tainio from White Hart Lane to the Stadium of Light and has now persuaded Malbranque to be part of his plans. Malbranque was a regular with Spurs under Juande Ramos last season but was a right-footer playing on the left flank, and a bid was accepted for him which indicated the 28-year-old was not central to the Spaniard's plans.

Tal Ben Haim has revealed Mark Hughes' ambition convinced him to join Manchester City from Chelsea. The 26-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with City after the two Premier League clubs settled on an undisclosed fee. It is the Israel international's second transfer in 13 months after he moved to Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Bolton in June 2007.

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Portugal Under-21 midfielder Amaury Bischoff from Werder Bremen. The French-born 21-year-old arrives at the Emirates Stadium after turning down a new deal with the Bundesliga side. The Gunners have not disclosed any compensation fee to be paid to Bremen and could be forced to go to a UEFA tribunal to determine how much they owe the German outfit. Bischoff joined Bremen in 2005 after spending his early years in France with Colmar and Strasbourg.

Chris Eagles revealed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded him to quit the European champions and join Coca-Cola Championship outfit Burnley. The 22-year-old has signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be in excess of £1million after finally admitting defeat in his fight to become a first-team regular at Old Trafford. Eagles joined the Red Devils at the age of 14 and despite being prominent in their pre-season campaign - scoring against Kaizer Chiefs and Portsmouth on their tour of Africa.

Chelsea rounded off their pre-season tour of Asia with a 2-0 win over a Malaysia select XI thanks to goals by Nicolas Anelka and Ashley Cole on Tuesday. The Champions League finalists secured the third win of their three-leg tour in hot and humid conditions in front of a crowd of 80,000 at the Shah Alam stadium.

Hull have signed defender Anthony Gardner on loan from Tottenham. Gardner joins the Premier League newcomers to improve his prospects of first-team action. The 27-year-old joined Tottenham from Port Vale in 2000 and has made 144 senior appearances. Gardner told the Hull Daily Mail: 'Playing week-in and week-out is how you get your rhythm and that's what I'm striving to get back to. Coming to Hull and playing regularly can give me that and it will benefit my game and hopefully Hull City as well.

Celtic are thought to be preparing a bid to take Barcelona midfielder Marc Crosas on loan. The 20-year-old claims the Parkhead club and Sevilla are hoping to sign him. Crosas, who played against Hibernian and Dundee United last week, joined Lyon on loan in January and helped them win the French league and cup double. He made his first-team debut in 2006 and has experience of playing in the Champions League.
