The Authority of the Son

Driving my friend Bill and his girlfriend to the airport, I passed a billboard showing a bikini-clad beauty holding a can of beer.
Bill's girlfriend glanced up at it and announced, "I suppose if I drank a six-pack of that brand, I'd look like her?"
"No," Bill corrected, "If I drank a six-pack, then you'd look like her."

An irate woman burst into the baker's shop and yelled, 'I sent my daughter in for two pounds of cookies this morning, but when I weighed them there was only one pound. I suggest that you check your scales.'

65 Year Old Mother

With the help of a fertility specialist, a 65 year old woman has a baby.  All her relatives come to visit and meet the newest member of their family.  When they ask to see the baby, the 65 year old mother says "not yet."  A little later they ask again to see the baby. Again the mother says "not yet."  Finally they say, "When can we see the baby?" And the mother says, "When the baby cries.They all ask, "Why do we have to wait until the baby cries?"  The new mother says, "because I forgot where I put it."

Karen had been volunteered to take some Christmas gifts to a home for mentally handicapped children.  Her plan was to drop the presents at the door and be on her way.  Places "like that" made her uncomfortable.

Before she could make her get-away, a voice called out behind her, "Oh thank you so much!"  Karen looked back to see a middle aged woman in nurse-type shoes standing at the door.  Seeing the name Lily on her name tag, Karen introduced herself.  She explained why she was bringing the gifts, keeping one eye on the clock and the other on the door.

Lily seemed unaware of Karen's exaggerated hurry.  She invited Karen to take part in giving the children their gifts.  Karen wasn't sure she could bear to witness such a heartbreaking situation in the midst of such a festive season but was unable to resist Lily's sincere offer.

The fear in Karen's heart subsided as she went from room to room.  She saw shining eyes and grateful hearts as she placed her gifts in eager hands.

On her way out she noticed the sign by the door, "God makes everything beautiful in its time" and said, "I wouldn't have believed this sign before.  I thought of handicapped children as miserable and even, I'm ashamed to say, unsightly.  But now that I've spent time with them I know I have truly seen the beauty only God can create."

Lily just smiled, for Karen was not the first to discover, in these children, God's unexpected beauty.

As a senior in high school, Jim batted .427 and led his team in home runs.  He also quarterbacked the football team to the state semifinals.  Later, Jim went on to pitch professionally for the New York Yankees.

That's a remarkable achievement for any athlete.  But it's an almost unbelievable one for Jim, because he was born without a right hand.

A little boy who had only parts of two fingers on one of his hands once came to Jim in the clubhouse after a Yankees game and said, "They call me crab at camp.  Did kids ever tease you?"

"Yeah," Jim replied.  "Kids used to tell me that my hand looked like a foot."  And then he asked the boy an all-important question, "Is there anything you can't do?"  The boy wisely answered, "No."

"Well, I don't think so either," Jim responded.

What others see as "limitations" is only a limitation if YOU think it is!

When he or she tries to treat someone especially well, he or she is buttering up the person - but when you do so, you're being thoughtful.

When he or she takes time to do things well, he or she is lazy, - but when you do so, you're meticulous.

When he or she spends a lot, he or she is a spendthrift - but when you overdo, you're generous.

When he or she picks flaws in things, he or she is critical - but when you do, you are perceptive.

When he or she is mild-mannered, you call them weak - but when you are, you're gracious.

When he or she dresses well, he or she is extravagant - but when you do, you're tastefully in style.

When he or she says what they think, they are being spiteful - but when you do, you're being honest.

When he or she takes great risks, they are foolhardy - but when you do so, your brave...
